Big-screen phone enthusiasts are often drawn to devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Oppo Find X6 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max with bigger displays. However, unlike most Android phones, iPhones still lack true multitasking features. Without pop-up windows and multiwindow support, it can be difficult for users to achieve productivity. In this article, we explore the limitations of iOS 17 and why iPhone users are still unable to enjoy these basic multitasking features.

The Problem with True Multitasking on iPhones

Though iPhones are renowned for their processing power, they still lack basic multitasking features that many Android devices have. One of the most significant issues is the inability to run multiple apps simultaneously, limiting productivity. For instance, when generating invoices, users cannot simultaneously run Google Sheets at the bottom and Docs at the top.

In addition, users cannot type a new email while glancing over the previous conversation in Gmail, a limitation that could hamper productivity. Furthermore, iOS 17 only offers picture-in-picture support. Although it is beneficial, it does not function like true multitasking.

Pop-Up Windows Support on Android Devices

Pop-up windows are supported on Android devices like Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, Realme, and Vivo. This feature facilitates running an app in a small window over something else, making it possible to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously without having to shift between applications. In contrast, iOS 17 lacks this functionality. For instance, an iPhone user cannot have the calculator app at their fingertips while reading an email.

Most Android devices support multiwindow functionality, enabling users to run two apps on their phones simultaneously. This feature works on devices with the smallest to largest displays, supporting tasks ranging from scrolling Twitter while watching a video on YouTube to raising invoices from a phone while running Google Sheets at the bottom and Docs at the top. Despite having powerful processors, iPhones still have limitations in multitasking that Android devices do not have.

Dynamic Island is a feature introduced in iOS 17 that displays information at a glance, including the ETA for food or Uber requests. Although it has improved, it does not enable users to multitask or perform various tasks simultaneously like pop-up windows or multiwindow support.
