Adoring Fan from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Appears in Starfield RPG
During the recent non-E3 events, Bethesda unveiled a lot of new footage of their upcoming RPG, Starfield, along with numerous new Xbox games that are coming to Game Pass, Xbox, and PC this year and the next. One surprise in Starfield was the brief cameo of arguably one of the most vexing characters from a previous Elder Scrolls title – the Adoring Fan.
Who is the Adoring Fan?
The Adoring Fan first appeared in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 2006. He is a young Wood Elf citizen who becomes your biggest cheerleader when you achieve the rank of Grand Champion in the in-game combat arena. If you let him follow you, he’ll do so regardless of where you go or what you do. Even if you kill him, he’ll come back, remaining your most ardent admirer ever. And apparently, he (or one of his distant relatives) also appears in Starfield, sporting a similar hairstyle and personality.
How Does the Adoring Fan Work in Starfield?
At Bethesda’s Starfield Direct event, we caught a glimpse of the character creation process in Starfield and were introduced to a trait called Hero Worshipped. Though this trait was first seen a year earlier, we hadn’t witnessed any gameplay of it until the event. A text explaining the feature stated:
You’ve earned the attention of an annoying ‘Adoring Fan’ who will show up randomly and jabber at you incessantly. On the plus side, he’ll give you gifts.
The Adoring Fan in Starfield works in much the same way as he did in Oblivion, as we can surmise from the feature’s description. He will idolize you and incessantly chatter away about how he can’t believe he gets to stand close to you. However, he will also periodically bestow gifts upon you. Bethesda has hinted at the possibility of removing traits in Starfield and suggested that you can take the fan to a desolate planet and zap him in the back with a space shotgun if he becomes too bothersome. Nevertheless, we pray that he cannot return like he did in Oblivion.
When Will Starfield Release?
Starfield is due on September 6th, 2022, for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
